Who I've seen perform live, so far in my life:
-
Duran Duran, in 8th grade, at the Civic
Center in Minneapolis. My first concert. (02/20/84)
-
Prince, the Purple Rain Tour, in 9th Grade
@ the Met Center in Minneapolis - Sheila E. opened. (12/24/84)
-
The Drifters - they played a restaurant/bar where my friend's mom
worked and came out to buy us booze and party with us after (10/21/89)
-
Warrant, Firehouse, and Trixter, the summer of '90 in Sommerset,
Wisconsin at an outdoor venue. Front row. (I lost my ticket) (06/15/91)
-
Smashing Pumpkins in '96. It was supposed
to be in July, but then the keyboardist OD'd and it was in the fall instead,
at the Continental Arena in Jersey - Garbage opened. (10/96 -- ticket
date 07/14/96)
-
Pearl Jam at Downing Stadium on Randall's
Island in '96 (my first & only mosh pit experience) (09/29/96)
-
Metallica at Madison Square Garden in '97
(that was the show where they lit a guy on fire and blew out all the lights
in MSG, and played the last few songs under a couple of dangling light
bulbs) - Corrosion of Conformity opened. (03/11/97)
-
Bush at Madison Square Garden, about a month
after Metallica - Veruca Salt opened (04/14/97)
-
Stevie Nicks
at the VH-1 Storytellers taping (08/18/98)
-
The Black Crowes at the Hard Rock Live taping (no ticket for this
one either) (09/14/98)
-
Goo Goo Dolls at the Hard Rock Live taping
(09/23/98)
-
Jerry Cantrell at Roseland
Ballroom (10/12/98)
-
Aerosmith at Jones Beach Stadium - 12th row
center (10/15/98)
-
Alanis Morissette at Roseland about a week
after that (that October was a big concert month!) (10/25/98)
-
Lenny Kravitz - won tickets as the
92nd caller on KROCK - Smashmouth and Buck Cherry opened.
(09/08/99)
-
Creed, Oleander and Our Lady
Peace - also won from KROCK - the other half of the scan is the
backside, which were signed by Cane and Altar Boy (Brian McFayden) from
KROCK. (09/30/99)
-
Red Hot Chili Peppers at the top of the
World Trade Center - ALSO won from KROCK (10/18/99)
-
Type O Negative - drove to Philly on Halloween with my friend Mo
and a couple other people; Mo grew up next door to Pete Steele and we hung
out backstage (no ticket, once again) (10/31/00)
Also attended:
-
The VH-1 Fashion Awards - I didn't actually get
to go in and sit there, but hung out in the press arrivals area w/my friend
from Billboard Magazine & took tons
of pictures. We also got to go to the after party, where I saw Claudia
Schiffer and Brian Setzer chilling out, and at one point Donald Trump was
standing rigt behind me. (10/23/98)
-
Some model party at Metronome (05/28/98)
-
Debut party for The Box's One World Music at Spy Bar (I got a gift
bag full o' goodies at that one) (09/17/98)
-
Warner Brothers party at El Flamingo for Chaka Kahn's record launch (09/24/08)
Celbs I've met (I think there's more, and I'll add on as I recall
'em):
-
Liza Minelli - came into the chi-chi ski shop I worked at, tried
on various hats, and asked me how she looked in them. She came in with
her boyfriend or whatever, and we all thought they were stoned.
-
Mike Myers - he lived in the building where a friend of mine had
a party one time
-
Sigourney Weaver (twice) - she came into both ski shops I worked
at. She was nice as pie.
-
Lenny Kravitz - came into the second ski shop I worked at, and a
bunch of us talked to him about a friend of ours who worked there but was
off that day who was currently cutting an album. He too, was very nice.
-
Rolanda (ex-talk show host) - I picked out ski wear for her for
half an hour, totally oblivious. Thought she looked a little familiar maybe.
A co-worker burst into the fitting room, "Can I just ask you, are you ROLONDA?"
and she confirmed it.
-
Willem Dafoe - I helped his wife pick out a bathing suit while another
co-worker assisted him elsewhere until he came to find her.
-
Stevie Nicks - backstage at the
Storytellers
taping I attended in '98
-
Jerry Cantrell - outside his
bus after the Roseland show in '98. The picture is
so close-up because people wouldn't back up far enough for my friend to
get a good shot and the bus was right behind us.
-
Pete Steele - my Brooklyn bud Mo grew up next door to him, and he
ran into him one day when he was at his mom's and he invited him to come
out to the show in Philly so he brought me and a couple other people. We
hung out backstage after the show and smoked many joints.
-
Amy Poehler - I was an extra in
the final episode of The Upright Citizens Brigade and I met her
in the lunch tent. I had a huuuge crush on her at the time, too, hence
the big smile on my face. :þ *Another interesting note about this
little stint: it puts me Three Degrees of Kevin Bacon. Amy Poehler was
in Envy (2004) with Cayden Boyd; Cayden Boyd was in Mystic River
(2003) with Kevin Bacon. I checked it on the The
Oracle of Bacon
-
Colin Quinn - I saw him perform at Boston Comedy club (I think)
and he commented aloud that I looked like Selena. (???)
-
The Drifters - A bunch of my friends and I went to their motel to
party with them, and their manager got piss-drunk and let me and my girl
friends put makeup on him and tease his hair. NOBODY HAD SEX. Please. They
were like, fifty - and at the time we were 20. That's just...gross.
-
Brian McFayden (KROCK/MTV/Beauty and the Geek/other things) - I
gave him a birthday card at the Creed show with very
suggestive remarks in it (I had a huge crush on him at the time),
and we emailed each other a few times. He always knew it was me when I
called in, too, because I won concert tickets so many times.
-
Soleil Moon Frye - She came into the shoe department where
I was working in a department store and wanted a pair of shoes but they
were a mismatch, so she asked me to hold them for her incase the correct
one came back or showed up.
-
Pamela Des Barres (in a live chat) - my friend from Billboard magazine
and I did a live chat on her site one time and talked to her about meeting
Steve Tyler from Aerosmith.
